The Best Wedding Venues in Boulder County — A DJ's Perspective
If you're planning a wedding in Boulder County, you already know you've picked one of the most stunning places in the country to celebrate. What you might not know is how differently each venue feels once the music starts, the dance floor fills up, and the night takes on a life of its own.
As a Boulder County-based wedding DJ and MC, I've had the privilege of working events across the Front Range — and I'm booked at several of these venues this coming season. So consider this less of a generic listicle and more of a real insider's guide from someone who's actually going to be behind the decks at some of these spots.
Here's my honest take on five of the best wedding venues in Boulder County.
St. Julien Hotel & Spa - Boulder
Best for: Couples who want a polished, upscale celebration with mountain views and full-service hospitality.
St. Julien Hotel & Spa is about as close to a turnkey luxury wedding as you'll find in Boulder. Situated right in the heart of downtown, the property offers over 16,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space — including the stunning Xanadu Ballroom with its crystal chandeliers and Italian marble floors, and the Redgarden Lawn, a beautifully manicured outdoor space with the Flatirons as your backdrop.
Capacity: 200 seated guests outside for the ceremony, 300 in the ballroom
What makes it special from a DJ's perspective: The Xanadu Ballroom has excellent acoustics and a proper dance floor setup. The indoor/outdoor flow also works really well for cocktail hour on the lawn before transitioning to a reception inside — which gives the evening a nice natural arc that's easy to score with music. Everybody wants an outdoor wedding in Colorado, but if Mother Nature throws a curve ball, you can always relocate your ceremony into the ballroom, which is a nice fallback.
Things to know: St. Julien requires a coordinator and doesn't allow outside catering or alcohol. It's a full-service venue, which means the planning process is more structured — but that also means fewer variables on the day itself.
Rembrandt Yard — Boulder
Best for: Couples who want a contemporary, art-forward venue in the heart of downtown Boulder with a more intimate feel.
Rembrandt Yard is one of Boulder's most distinctive wedding venues — a contemporary art gallery on Spruce Street with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame both the mountain skyline and the energy of downtown. It seats up to 125 guests, making it one of the better options for couples who want something beautiful and intimate without the scale of a hotel ballroom.
Capacity: Up to 125 seated guests
What makes it special from a DJ's perspective: The gallery setting creates a naturally sophisticated atmosphere — you don't need to work as hard to set a mood when the room itself already has character. Also, because you’re in downtown Boulder, The Rembrandt Yard can stay open until 2 am if you’re looking to extend the party!
Things to know: Rembrandt Yard's size is its biggest strength and its main constraint. It's ideal for couples who genuinely want an intimate celebration — if your guest list is north of 125, you'll want to look elsewhere.
The Greenbriar Inn — Boulder
Best for: Couples who want a romantic, garden-estate feel without leaving Boulder County.
The Greenbriar Inn sits on 20 scenic acres just north of Boulder, surrounded by mountain foothills and the kind of lush, manicured grounds that make every photo look like it was planned. It's been operating as an award-winning restaurant and event venue for over 50 years, and that experience shows in how smoothly the operation runs.
I have a wedding booked at the Greenbriar this season, and I can tell you from experience that the staff there is exceptional to work with — they communicate clearly with vendors ahead of time and have a well-oiled process that makes setup and coordination easy.
Capacity: Varies by space — intimate to mid-size celebrations
What makes it special from a DJ's perspective: The Greenbriar has a warmth to it that's hard to manufacture. The combination of the historic inn, the gardens, and the mountain backdrop creates an atmosphere where people relax and enjoy themselves — which means the dance floor tends to come alive naturally. The venue's commitment to fresh, seasonal food also means guests arrive at the reception well-fed and in a great mood.
Things to know: The Greenbriar doesn't allow outside catering or alcohol, and their kitchen is one of the best in Boulder County — so that's not really a sacrifice. Curfew is 11pm, so plan your timeline accordingly.
The Simon — Louisville
Best for: Couples who want a modern, design-forward venue in the heart of Old Town Louisville with plenty of natural light and a flexible layout.
The Simon is one of the newest — and most talked-about — wedding venues in Boulder County, and for good reason. Located right on Main Street in downtown Louisville, it's a sleek, industrial-modern space with an abundance of natural light, separate ceremony and reception areas (no awkward room flips), two getting-ready suites on different floors, and a Speakeasy Lounge available as an after-party add-on.
I'm booked at The Simon this season and I'm genuinely excited about it. The venue's layout is thoughtfully designed — everything flows naturally from ceremony to cocktail hour on the attached terrace to reception, which makes my job as MC and DJ significantly easier.
Capacity: Up to 200 seated (but it’s more comfortable at 160-170), 250 cocktail style
What makes it special from a DJ's perspective: The separation of ceremony and reception spaces is a huge plus — it means I can have the reception room set up and ready while the ceremony is happening, so there's no downtime or rushed transitions. The room also has good acoustics for a modern space, and the natural light during the earlier part of the evening creates a beautiful atmosphere without needing additional lighting.
Things to know: The Simon is located just minutes from Davidson Mesa Trailhead, the Louisville Arboretum, and Harper Lake — meaning incredible photo opportunities are a 5-minute drive away. Their 11-hour venue access window is also one of the most generous in the county, giving vendors plenty of time for setup and breakdown.
Shupe Homestead — Longmont
Best for: Couples who want quintessential Colorado — open skies, mountain views, and a peaceful natural setting without driving into the mountains.
Shupe Homestead is the kind of venue that stops you in your tracks the first time you see it. Located just minutes from Boulder and Longmont, the property offers unobstructed views of Longs Peak and Mount Meeker, a beautiful reflective pond, manicured grounds with black walnut and silver spruce trees, and a serene atmosphere that feels a world away from the city.
I have a wedding booked at Shupe Homestead this season, and I can tell you it's one of those venues where the setting does a lot of the emotional heavy lifting. When the sun sets behind the mountains during a first dance, you don't need much else.
Capacity: Up to 200 (but it’s more comfortable at 150)
What makes it special from a DJ's perspective: Shupe Homestead has a beautifully converted barn that serves as the reception space — and it's one of the nicest indoor barn venues I've seen in Boulder County. It has the warmth and character of a classic barn with the polish of a purpose-built event space, which means great acoustics, a natural dance floor atmosphere, and a setting that responds really well to lighting. The combination of an outdoor ceremony with those mountain views followed by a reception inside the barn gives the evening a natural, satisfying flow.
Things to know: Colorado weather is unpredictable, especially in spring and early fall — but the converted barn means you're genuinely covered regardless of what the forecast throws at you. It's not a "backup" option so much as a stunning venue in its own right. If you're considering Shupe Homestead, don't let weather anxiety be a factor — the barn reception experience is worth the trip on its own.
A Few Final Thoughts
Every one of these venues is exceptional — but they're exceptional in different ways. The right one for you comes down to your guest count, your aesthetic, and the feeling you want to create.
